2 States is an upcoming Bollywood film based on the book 2 States: The Story of My Marriage written by Chetan Bhagat. It will be directed by Abhishek Verman under Dharma Productions. The film will star Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles. The film is currently in the pre-production stage and is slated to release in 2013.

Earlier when it was announced that director Siddharth Anand will make a film based on 2 States, the lead role was to be played by Saif Ali Khan and the music to be composed by Vishal Shekhar. Due to creative differences over script between Siddharth and Saif, the project was called off.
Later it was announced that the screen adaptation of 2 States would be produced by Sajid Nadiadwala withShahrukh Khan and Asin in the lead. Vishal Bhardwaj will be directing it.
But the interest of Shahrukh Khan to not to appear in back to back romantic movies, made the director look after different options. Later on, it was declared that Ranbir Kapoor would appear as the protagonist in the project. Due to clash of dates, producer Sajid Nadiawala had roped in Imran Khan to essay the lead role. But with Imran Khan opting out of the film, the situation just deepened for the producers. Arjun Kapoor (of Ishaqzaade fame) has been roped in to play the Punjabi boy in KJo’s version of ‘2 States’.It was later reported that the female lead was given to Alia Bhatt who made her debut with Johar's Student of the Year.
