Jab Tak Hai Jaan is an upcoming 2012 Indian romance film directed by Yash Chopra and written and produced byAditya Chopra under their production banner Yash Raj Films. The film features Shahrukh Khan, Katrina Kaif andAnushka Sharma in lead roles, making it the first film to pair Khan and Kaif and the second collaboration between Khan and Sharma after Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.

In June 2011, Yash Raj Films released a statement announcing a new directorial venture by Yash Chopra which would coincide with the 50th anniversary of his career in Bollywood. The producers also announced that the film would release on the Diwali 2012 weekend.According to Chopra, the film was planned in early 2009 but he did not want Khan to work on any film other than his simultaneously. The song, we hear, would be as intensely romantic as 'Mere Dil Mein Aaj Kya Hai' from Yash Chopra's Daag, the first film the senior Chopra directed for his home banner Yashraj Films in 1973. Says a source close, "When the situation for the romantic song was conceived Yashji and Adi gave the great Sahir Ludhianvi's lines 'Mere Dil Mein Aaj Kya Hai Tu Kahe To Main Bataa Doon' from Daag as a reference. Now the song will be shot in the snowfall capturing the same desperate romance between Shah Rukh and Katrina Kaif that Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore projected in Daag."
"It's like a tribute to Rajesh Khanna," says the source. The same source adds that this song apart, Jab Taak Hai Jaan bears no resemblance to Daag in content.While on one hand, Karan Johar is happy about Barfi!'s journey to the Oscars, on the other, he has reportedly stated thatJab Tak Hai Jaan is going to be the most special film of the year as it might be Yash Chopra's last film. He mentioned that while his own film Student Of The Year is releasing this year, Chopra's Jab Tak Hai Jaan will be the most special experience of 2012 for him, as the legend may not direct films after this.
