Abbas-Mustan’s Players will hit the silver screen this Friday, and along with it, audiences will get to watch the trailer of producer Ratan Jain’s upcoming action-thriller, Tezz. Interestingly, while Players stars Sonam Kapoor, Priyadarshan’s film will see her father Anil Kapoor in an action-oriented role alongside Ajay Devgn.
“It’s a happy co-incidence. What else can I say?” says Jain, adding, “It’s the right time for us to come out with the trailer. Since we always wanted to release it in 2012, and Players is the year’s first release, we are going ahead with it.”
Jain hopes the trailer will put all speculations about the film’s final release date to rest. “It is going to hit theatres on April 27,” he says, admitting that the film is running a bit late.He adds, “We have taken an extra six months to complete the film because of the VFX work involved. Then Ajay started shooting for Son Of Sardar and had to grow his beard for that role. So, we had to wait for him to wrap that up to complete our patchwork. It’s not complete yet, but whatever I’ve seen has been satisfying. And I have two great actors,” says Jain.
Saif can relax! For some time now, talks were rife about Tezz clashing with Saif Ali Khan’s long-delayed home production Agent Vinod, which is now scheduled to release on March 23. But both sides can heave sigh of relief.“Agent Vinod was set to release in February 2012. Later, they shifted it to March. But now, there is no clash because Tezz is coming in April,”.
Thanks to Munni and Sheila, item songs have become a big deal in Bollywood. So it’s not surprising that Sameera Reddy is putting her best foot forward for an item number in Priyadarshan’s upcoming film, Tezz. The actor, who plays a club dancer in the film, lost about seven kilos for the part. The actor followed the strict GM (General Motors) diet to achieve the desired result. “Her close friend Neeta Lulla told her to go on the GM diet, which was extremely difficult, but it worked wonders. She followed it for a week. Besides, she also swam and worked out religiously everyday,” informs a member of her management team.
When asked about the song, Sameera refused to reveal any details, but she says with a smile, “I am excited to dance on the peppy track. And I’ve lost oodles of weight for it, so I’m confident that it will be another hit like Sheila and Munni!” The song has been composed by Sajid-Wajid.
Besides shaking a leg, Sameera will be seen as a speed-junkie in Tezz, who loves the thrills of riding a bike. She also learnt whitewater rafting and did a few bike stunts for the action film. In fact, Sameera had to start training for her action scenes three months prior to the shoot.Priyadarshan’s Tezz stars Anil Kapoor, Ajay Devgn, Kangna Ranaut, Zayed Khan and Mohanlal.
The GM Diet:The seven-day long diet should ideally be followed only once in a month or once in two months. It involves eating only one kind of food (fruits, chicken etc) for one entire day. It is known to be highly effective. However, it has received a lot of criticism among fitness experts for its extreme treatment, which also does not keep the weight off permanently.
The Indian cricket team’s dismal performance in England and Australia may have left fans shattered, but it has left Bollywood smiling. Unlike the first four seasons of the big-ticket Indian Premier League, which saw most movie releases delayed, the upcoming season, to be held from April 4-May 27, will see a face-off with at least eleven big budget flicks worth Rs 350-Rs 400 crore releasing.
“Team India’s recent shows have triggered a repulsion — audiences are not interested in watching cricket. The release of big-budget movies during IPL this year is a conscious call, beating the trend of the last four years. Close to Rs 350-Rs 400 crore is riding on these movies. Producers have faith that the IPL won’t be to able to steal eyeballs from them,” says trade expert Joginder Tuteja.
Among the releases that clash with the mega sporting event are Housefull 2, Bittoo Boss and Tezz. Distributor Joginder Mahajan says, “Our team has lost its sheen. There is no fun in watching matches anymore, unlike movies.”
Producers and multiplexes are upbeat. “We have scheduled Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum for April-May and are confident of our film regardless of IPL … There has been an excess of cricket happening and producers have now realised that if the content is good, it can work any time,” says Girish Johar, distribution and acquisition head, Balaji Motion Pctures. “The way the Indian team suffered in Australia goes to show clearly that IPL won’t see that craze this year. We won’t even telecast live matches like we did, earlier. Bollywood will dominate this IPL in multiplexes,” says Yogesh Raizada of Wave Cinemas.
Well, both are macho men, and began their careers as action heroes only to move on to rib-tickling comedy capers. While Akshay Kumar has been seen in quite a few Priyadarsan films, in Tezz, we'll see Ajay Devgn come to the fore with some daredevilry and edge of the seat action! The highlights of director Priyadarshan's forthcoming movie Tezz is said to be the high octane stunts designed by none other than Hollywood Action co-ordinator Peter Pedrero. Peter is known for his action scenes in films like The Bravehart and The Bourne Ultimatum and The Bank Job.
Though it is Peter's first experience in India the action co-ordinator is excited about it. "Working with the Tezz crew was a fantastic experience, Priyadarshan was a wonderful director who new exactly what he wanted, he allowed me to write and direct all the action sequences, the freedom he gave me was incredible, not normaly found on western films, we were all like a big family all working together to make a great movie" says Peter.
However the action co-coordinator says that the most difficult part was the shooting of trains in U.K. "The weather at times played a problem as we had very high winds and it was too dangerous for the car stunts and the helicopter chase to be coordinated safely but since we had very stringent Health and safety laws we managed. Moreover everything had to be documented in detail, but all the local counsels from london, Birmingham and Scotland that were involved were very helpful. I had a stunt team of 7 people for the Driving stunts on the sets everyday" he adds.
Besides Ajay Devgn, Tezz also stars Anil Kapoor, Kangna Ranaut and Mohanlal.Anil Kapoor's famous British style of speech fails to work, makers decided to re-dub all portions starring the actor in Tezz
With a role in a foreign production comes the inevitable foreign accent. And thus, after mouthing 'chhaiwallah' innumerable times in Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire, the One-Two-Ka-Four Lakhan of Indian Cinema, Anil Kapoor, too had acquired a Brit accent. Such are the drawbacks of trying to get into the 'skin' of every character, one may say. And while hisaccent has surely helped in luring Tom Cruise to the subcontinent, for Priyadarshan's upcoming film, it has proved to be a hindrance.
Mumbai Mirror has learnt that Anil, who plays a British cop in Ratan Jain's Tezz, has laid on the accent a little too heavily. And thus, the makers along with the actor, have now decided to re-dub the entire film. Explaining the situation, producer Jain told Mirror, "See, Anil plays a character born and brought up in London. So, he felt that the accent is very important to make it look authentic. However, when we saw the film a couple of days back, Anil felt that his voice is his USP and by speaking in an accent, he was losing out on that."
Considering it was Anil's 'Jhakaas' that connected famously with the Indian audience, Jain felt that the actor's original voice would also help the film work out emotionally with the cinegoers at home. "It was his decision to re-dub the film. We both felt that it was the best way to go about things. I am more than happy when my actors think positively for the film. We would now re-dub the entire film."
Anil's impulsive decision to drop the accent, which he had been so fond of lately, comes at the wake of a private screening of the rushes of Tezz. A source close to the project revealed that it was the stark difference between his and the other actors' accents that made Anil change his mind. "Anil is someone who gets involved in every aspect of his projects. He had got this accent ever since he worked in Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire. His character in Tezz demanded an accent as well. However, when he saw the film a couple of days back, he decided that the accent was not working. He spoke to producer Ratan Jain and decided to re-dub the film,".
