Telugu Tollywood actress, Ileana D'Cruz will play the role of the narrator. Earlier, Katrina Kaif and Asin were being considered for roles in the film.
In June 2011, Basu had cancelled his shoot schedule in Darjeeling, owing to unmanageable crowds and inclement weather. A heated exchange of words had also taken place between the film crew and the crowd at the Darjeeling Chowrasta on June 16, 2011 had made matters worse. Kapoor and D’Cruz were shooting for the film in that spell.
Finally assurances from the District Administration of cooperation and a request by fellow Director Mahesh Bhatt, resulted in Barfee returning back to the Darjeeling Hills.
An uninterrupted and successful shooting schedule in Darjeeling has resulted in a high spirited Barfee team. So much so that Writer-director Anurag Basu has decided on a music launch of the film in Darjeeling. This is for the first time that a Bollywood film music release is taking place in Darjeeling.
Basu had arrived in town on February 16, along with Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D’Cruz, shooting for his romantic thriller Barfee. Basu has shot to fame with films like Murder, Gangster, Life in a Metro and Kites. Pritam is the music director of the film.
Basu said, “We will have a music launch for the film in May in Darjeeling. The whole team including the cast will be in Darjeeling for the music release. Barfee will have 6 songs." The film is slated for July 13, 2012 release.
The locales for the shoot include Tindharia, Bhotey Bustee, Hotel Windamere, Chowrasta and the Planters Club in Darjeeling. Shooting is scheduled to end in Darjeeling on February 29. While Priyanka had left Darjeeling on February 23 for Hyderabad where she is shooting for the film Krish; Ileana D'Cruz had left on February 25.
Ranbeer, “ Darjeeling is an excellent place. I am loving it here” (Grandfathers Raj Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor had shot in Darjeeling too.) He has “freaked out” on Tibetan delicacies including Pork Momos, at a local restaurant “Kungas” in Darjeeling. Ranbir plays a deaf and mute youth named Barfee in the film ”It is a warm film with a display of different emotions .”
Priyanka Chopra is bowled over by “Misty Darjeeling." “I will miss the mist coming in through the windows. Darjeeling is extremely beautiful both as a film locale as well as a tourist destination. I am feeling terrible having to return” stated Priyanka. She left Darjeeling on Thursday for Hyderabad to shoot for Krissh 3.
Ranbeer delivered a heavy-duty performance in Rockstar, and now, he is set to charm audiences with his “romantic-comic” outing in Barfee. Even as Anurag Basu’s film nears completion, word is out that it’s an Indian interpretation of popular British TV comic character, Mr Bean. “It’s not a direct copy of Mr Bean (played by Rowan Atkinson). But you’ll find the elements of Ranbir’s character a bit similar to him. Anurag and Ranbir have worked very hard on making sure that the film is entertaining and not serious,” says a team member involved with Barfee.
Priyanka has always been her daddy's girl. Standing by her father even when he was dogged by vicious controversy. And now, Mirror has learnt, Priyanka Chopra is flying down to Ajmer Sharif to offer a special prayer for the ailing Dr Ashok Chopra. A source close to Priyanka revealed, "Dr Chopra was diagonsed with cancer in 2009. After prolonged treatment, he was quite alright. But it seems the problems have resurfaced."
A concerned Priyanka has been spending as much time with him as possible. The family has been together, with her mother Dr Madhu Chopra and her younger brother, by her father's side almost all the time. The actress has had her hands full, hopping from Hyderabad, where she is shooting for Krish 3, to Darjeeling, where she is shooting for Barfee. "Dr Chopra had flown down to Darjeeling to spend time with Priyanka. Father and daughter are very close to each other," said the source.
It was in 2009, that Dr Chopra was diagnosed with the dreaded disease and was hospitalised for a while to undergo a major surgery. At that time he had fondly and proudly said of his daughter, "Priyanka looks after me very well. She was with me in the hospital throughout. There was brief spell of well-being. But in 2011 afgain, Dr Chopra compalined of extreme weakness and his alarmed doctors advised him to take rest, but under supervision. At that time, he had gone to the US for the much-needed recuperation. Priyanka was there again by his side, flitting between the clinic and the studios, where she was recording her album.
