BLOOD MONEY - SONG

The Bhatt camp’s success ratio has always taken a beating whenever they have moved beyond Emraan Hashmi. Blood Money is yet another attempt by the banner to succeed at their medium-budget, romantic-thriller formula, without the services of the serial kisser. It stars Kunal Khemu who is best known as the child artist from Mahesh Bhatt’s Hum Hai Rahi Pyar Ke andZakhm. In his two hits as a hero, Kalyug and Golmaal 3-Khemu got little credit for their success. Teaming up with him are the sexy pin-up model Mia and the pretty Amrita Puri, whose fresh screen presence stole the thunder from Sonam Kapoor in Aisha.
Blood Money’s music has been composed by Jeet Ganguly-Part of the erstwhile Jeet-Pritam duo. While Pritam went onto reach dizzying heights in Bollywood, Jeet has been focusing more on Bengali films.
The album opens with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s Chahat. It’s a safe start considering it was Khemu’s Kalyug in which Rahat first got noticed, for the still popular Jia Dhadak Dhadak. Though Chahat comes nowhere close to that number, it is a passionately sung song with a simple, easy to hum melody. The tune is a template composition that stays true to the Bhatt banner’s tradition of love ballads.

Mustafa Zahid, who sung the haunting Tera Mera Rishta in Awarapan, is in top form in Gunaah. A high pitched, sufi-rock number, it has an instantly catchy hook to it. As expected, given the potential success of the song, it appears in yet another version. This time it’s an unplugged composition sung by Rana Mazumder. There is a dramatic quality to it, but the somber mood of this version should work better on screen, when played in context of the plot.

Jeet brings back Mustafa for yet another high-tempo song about heartbreak. Jo Tere Sang is the kind of composition that one associates with Emraan Hashmi and belongs to the Woh Lamhe (Zeher) and Judaai(Jannat) family. While the melody is appealing, the excessive sound arrangements dominate over the song. And unlike Gunaah, the vocals and tune get lost in the heavy beats.
Guest composers Sangeet and Siddharth Haldipur pitch in with the light and peppy Arzoo. What’s striking about the song is that singer Clinton Cjerejo who has so far sung softer melodies in movies like Wake Up Sid,Karthik Calling Karthik and Ek Deewana Tha pumps up the adrenalin for a high voltage number. Sung with a lot of enthusiasm, it's a staple boy wooing girl track, with some Punjabi hooks - But the sheer energy of it all, makes the song work.
Last year the Bhatts delivered a huge hit in Murder 2, and the teasers ofJannat 2 are already creating wavers. Blood Money is sandwiched somewhere between the two.
