English Vinglish is a 2012 Indian drama film directed by Gauri Shinde and produced by R. Balki. It was made simultaneously in Hindi and Tamil and released on 5 October 2012. It was also dubbed in Telugu and released simultaneously along with the Hindi and Tamil versionsStarring Sridevi in the lead role, the film marks her comeback to Bollywood after 14 years and to Tamil cinemaafter 26 years.The film also features French actor Mehdi Nebbou, Adil Hussain, and Priya Anand. Amitabh Bachchan and Ajith Kumar make guest appearances in the Hindi and Tamil versions respectively.
The movie opened with high critical acclaim and did well in multiplex screens and managed to earn 2.50 cr on its first day. Movie had a huge jump on Saturday making its the biggest Saturday growth in recent times and collection for the two days came to 6.75 cr. The Sunday figures were even better and the film ended its first weekend with 13 crore net. The film collected 28.5 crore in India at the end of its second weekend. The trade declared the film a Hit on the twelfth day when it crossed the 30 crore mark.The film collected 31 crore at the end of its second week .
