CHASHME BUDDOOR REMAKE - STILLS

Actor Ali Zafar is being noticed. The pop artist who made his Bollywood debut in Tere Bin Laden left David Dhawan mighty impressed with his comic timing so much so that Dhawan had decided to cast him as and when he came across a role Dhawan thought Zafar could do justice to.

Ali Zafar has gained popularity in Bollywood through his well received roles in past films, and is excited to be playing Farooq Shaikh's role in this remake. He says, "I’m a huge fan of Farooq Bhai. He’s in a league of his own as an actor and I don’t think I’ll come anywhere close.” Sai Paranjpye, who rewrote the film recognized a similarity between Zafar and Shaikh, "Both Shaikh and Zafar are aristocratic and cultured. And there's a certain masoomiyat (innocence) about them. When my co-writer Renuka and I began to re-write Chashme Buddoor for contemporary times, we immediately thought of Ali in Farooq's role.

Tamil actor, Siddharth will be stepping into Ravi Baswani's role. Director, David Dhawan explains that it was difficult to cast this role because, "Ravi Baswani is the only member of the cast who is no more and I miss him. Ravi and I were roommates when we were both starting out in our careers. I had to put Ravi in safe hands. I had to cast someone who I knew would do justice to his part."

The casting of David Dhawan’s version of Sai Paranjpye’s 1981 cult comedy Chashme Baddoor just got even more interesting. After signing Pakistani pop star Ali Zafar for Farouq Shaikh’s part, and Tamil star Siddharth for Ravi Baswani’s part, David has now signed the relatively-unknown Divyendu Sharma to play the pivotal third protagonist .

Divyendu who shot to a certain kind of unexpected fame with his performance as the love-smothered cynical and abusive character Liquid in Luv Sinha’s sleeper hit Pyaar Ka Punchnaama, bagged the role in a most bizarre manner.
