The highly synergistic association of Fox Star
Studios and Vishesh Films seems to have paid off handsome dividends with
their film RAAZ 3 collecting close to 60 crores in the first week at the box office. This
has made it the most successful film of the Bhatt camp. It's also their
most widely released film ever.
They justifiably organized a
success party at a suburban Mumbai hotel elated by the film's BO
performance. It was time for thanksgiving and keeping in tune with the
festive mood of Ganesh Chaturthi, they thanked Lord Ganesh for it.
Incidentally, it's the elephant headed god of good omen who saves the
protagonists of RAAZ 3 from 'black magic' and death.
Apart from the Bhatts - Mahesh, Mukesh,
and Vikram, and Vijay Singh, CEO Fox Star, the cast of the film
including Emran Hashmi, Bipasha Basu, and Esha Gupta,
and the film's writer Shagufta Ali were present as well.
The talk of
hitting the hundred crore benchmark was very much in the air. Mahesh
Bhatt admitted that the media frenzy and hype about the 100 crore club
is responsible for the change in his attitude and he won't mind joining
it now.
RAAZ 3 may collect about 75 crores and probably a little
more at the box office by the end of its second week run. Since the
number of shows and screens has been halved in its second week, the
collections are bound to come down.
That will nearly sum up its box
office story as the coming single-screen favorite HEROINE will take over
the turf next week onwards. Though RAAZ 3 may not join the coveted 100
crore club.
It certainly will bring better returns on its investment
compared with other much celebrated films in the club since its cost of
production is low, which is a hallmark of Vishesh Films' business
approach. If we include the money the film is expected to make through
its music, satellite, and the other ancillary rights, it may touch the
magic figure of 100 crores.
