In the film, Ranbir Kapoor reportedly plays the role of a deaf person. Priyanka Chopra will play the role of a mentally challenged girl, for which she will attend a mental asylum to get into the skin of her role.
Ranbeer: Barfee isn’t a serious film. “People have a lot of misconceptions about Barfee. It’s a romantic comedy set in the ‘70s. And I am playing a Mr Bean kind of a character.
It has been very interesting and challenging,” he says, adding, “Anurag has been a wonderful director. And I hope we make an endearing, feel-good film, which family audiences can enjoy.” The actor plays a deaf and mute person in the film, while Priyanka Chopra will be seen as a mentally challenged girl and Ileana D`Cruz will narrate the story.
But Ranbir clarifies that he isn’t copying Mr Bean, Charlie Chaplin or Buster Keaton. He says, “I have grown up with these characters. So from the start, they have been deep influences on me. It’s not like I am trying to copy someone, because the character is my own take and personal adaptation. It’s absolutely original and not influenced by any of them.”
I’ve never been so afraid of visiting Kolkata as I have been while shooting for Barfee,” says Priyanka Chopra, who plays an autistic character in the movie directed by Anurag Basu and shot largely in the City Of Joy.
The National Award winner admits that it’s the toughest assignment of her career so far.“Getting into the deep dark world of my character gives me the jitters although Anurag and Ranbir have always helped me get my cues and scenes right. Sometimes, I’m just so scared to go on the sets because I turn into someone who is difficult to relate to in a normal situation.
I’ve to get into the person’s psyche and act in such a way that I don’t look as if I went overboard or simply overacted.”In a press conference in Darjeeling, Director Mahesh Bhatt stated that he has convinced fellow film maker Anurag Basu to reshoot his film Barfee, in Darjeeling. Basu has decided to visit Darjeeling to check the ground realities before making any commitments.
The film crew of Barfee had a squabble with over enthusiastic crowds trying to catch a glimpse of actor Ranbir Kapoor during a shoot at the Chowrasta on June 16, 2011. Basu went back with the shoot incomplete. Sources state that Basu has completed some scenes in Ooty.
Talking to HT, Basu stated “I will be visiting Darjeeling alone in Darjeeling and check the ground realities (shooting conditions.) Following this will I take the final decision. I have always been enthusiastic to shoot in Darjeeling.” The Administration and the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) has assured Basu of a perfect shooting environment.
