JOKER - STILLS

Director Shirish Kunder reveals that his forthcoming film Joker is a sci-fi drama, and its story unfolds through a series of clues towards a mysterious place that its lead actor Sonakshi Sinha is led on to. “The story revolves around a place that has been lost from the map of India,” says Kunder. However, Kunder is worried that since wife Farah Khan’s last irectorial venture Tees Maar Khan (2010) and brother-in-law Sajid Khan’s Housefull franchise were out-and-out comedies, the general presumption among people would be his film too is of the same genre. “As it comes from the same camp as those two films and Akshay is playing the lead, everyone thinks Joker is a comedy, which it’s not. Though this film is sci-fi, it has doses of humour,” says Kunder.

Kunder also asserts that he and Farah have radically distinct visions, when it comes to making a film. “Farah is very commercial in her approach, while I am more subtle. I can never do a full-on comedy.”Joker will also be released in a 3D format. Previously Shah Rukh Khan’s RA.One and Don 2 were also converted into 3D but they couldn’t impress the audience. Prod him on whether he is anxious about how his film would be received in 3D, he replies, “Yes. But both these films were originally shot for 2D and later converted into 3D.

When you shoot with 3D in mind, you do it differently. For example, when you shoot a close up for 2D, you blur the background but when you do it keeping 3D in mind, you shoot it in wide angle so everything behind the object also comes clearly. The usage of lens is different in this style and one can create layers while shooting in 3D,” says Kunder.About Sonakshi’s character in the film, he says, “She plays the role of a Westerner with Indian origins. She comes from abroad when she hears of this mysterious place, and the story develops from there on,”

First she opted for a glamorous role in 'Desi Boyz' and then she gave a nod to an item number. Actress Chitrangada Singh, otherwise known for serious roles, surprised all and sundry last year and says the response has been encouraging."I really hope 2012 turns out to be a year full of surprises for me, and surprises spring after one another. I am really happy with the kind of response I received for my work in 'Desi Boyz'. It was really encouraging and I am looking forward to more good work this year,".

The dusky beauty, who will be seen on an upcoming episode of UTV Stars' 'Superstar Santa', made her Bollywood debut in 2003 with 'Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi', and was subsequently seen in films like 'Sorry Bhai!', 'Basra' and 'Yeh Saali Zindagi'.'Desi Boyz', which also featured Akshay Kumar, John Abraham and Deepika Padukone, was a radically different project for her. Nevertheless, she loved it, and the audience loved her in it too.
No wonder she feels her fans will appreciate her item song in Shirish Kunder's 3D project 'Joker'."The item song was hard, we rehearsed for it a lot and it has turned out to be fabulous. It is not into-the-face, the music is very catchy and the choreography by Farah (Khan) is very sensuous. It was great fun doing it," said the 35-year-old.In 2012, she is looking forward to 'I, Me Aur Main' with John, and Sudhir Mishra's film with Arjun Rampal.

"'I, Me Aur Main' is going to be a great film. John is fantastic in it. It is an emotional, yet comedy film about a man, his relationships, his busy life in a metro city...it's basically about men. The film was a lot of fun and has a lot of drama," she said of the movie, expected to release within the first quarter of the year."Sudhir's film is about sexual harassment, it is about a woman's ambition in the workplace and how that is curbed...so it's an interesting script, and I am extremely excited about it," she added.

In the meantime, she has had to turn down an offer to work with Kamal Haasan, who had reportedly contacted her for a role in his Hindi-Tamil bi-lingual 'Vishwaroopam'. But she had to refuse as the dates clashed with those she kept aside for Mishra's film."I had to refuse the offer. I would love to work with him (Kamal), he is a legend to work with," said the actress. On the small screen, Chitrangada says she loved playing Santa for a bit, on the show 'Superstar Santa', where celebrities play peacemakers between two common people."Santa is too big a role to play. But it's always nice when as celebrities, we can do something for common people," she said.

Shreyas Talpade : I has tackled many comic as well as serious roles in his seven-year-old acting career, but Shreyas Talpade says his character in the 3D film "Joker" is the toughest one ever as he is having to sketch it himself. Directed by Shirish Kunder, the upcoming multi-starrer fantasy-adventure will see the 36-year-old actor playing a character called Babban that has not been written by Kunder in his script. "My character 'Babban' has got no character sketch in Kunder's script. He just had the name in his mind and asked me to bring out the character in my own way. So, my character is the result of our permutations and combinations of acting on the sets. "I was the last one to enter the team.

It's one of the challenging roles of my life because I am writing my own character. I am playing Akshay Kumar's younger brother in the film,". The actor is now gearing up for the release of yet another multi-starrer "Housefull 2" which also stars Akshay Kumar, alongwith John Abraham, Riteish Deshmukh, Asin, Jacqueline Fernandez, Zarine Khan, Shazahn Padamsee, Mithun Chakraborty, Randhir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor and Boman Irani. Directed by Sajid Khan, the film will hit screens on April 5. Shreyas, who has appeared in a number of comic multistarrers earlier, like "Golmaal" and "Welcome to Sajjanpur", says he gets his due in such films even though there are a number of such actors.
