Confirms Ashwini Chaudhary, the director of GHAYAL RETURNS, "Yes, we are not using GHAYAL as a franchise. Instead it is a story that has taken a 20 year leap and is now progressing ahead. Sunny is still Ajay Mehra. While everything around the script and screenplay has been locked, we are now spending quite some time in getting the groundwork together before kick-starting the film in September."

This should settle all speculations around whether Sunny is just playing with a successful formula or is actually picking up from where he left in GHAYAL. For the uninitiated, the earlier Sunny Deol-Rajkumar Santoshi collaboration had done wonders at the box office. Not just that, it also managed to gain a cult status over last two decades and now is creating a record of sorts by seeing a sequel being made after the longest ever time gap.

"The way GHAYAL RETURNS has turned out to be, audience would want to go back to GHAYAL and check it out all over again," smiles Ashwini, "Especially the younger audience out there which hasn't seen GHAYAL, and they would want to know thatAakhir Ajay Mehra ke saath hua kya tha. As for the ones who have already seen GHAYAL, it won't be a bad idea to revisit the drama."

While the film's leading lady and the villain are yet to be announced, GHAYAL RETURNS is all set to go on floors in the last quarter of the year.
