Blood Money, directed by newcomer Vishal Mahadkar is the story of a student who goes overseas with his wife and gets involved in the entire diamond marketing outfit and the underworld. At first, Mahesh Bhatt denied that his film has any direct connections with Bharat Shah but then he admitted that there is a character of a big film financier who is involved in the diamond trade and is accused of having connections with the underworld by the government.

Bhatt however maintained that there are no direct references to Bharat Shah and his film is a work of fiction. The character inspired by Shah will be portrayed by newcomer Manish.
