KOOCHIE KOOCHIE HOTA HAI

They’re all dogs in this film — Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Rani Mukherji and several other Bollywood A-listers. None of them, however, seem to be taking offence. Reason: The dogs are the stars of an animation film titled Koochie Koochie Hota Hai. Directed by Dostana director Tarun Mansukhani,

the film — a love triangle between three dogs named Rocky (Shah Rukh Khan), Angie (Kajol) and Tine (Rani Mukherji) — is being made to mark the 12th anniversary of Karan Johar’s directorial debut Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. The voiceover for all animated characters have been done by the actors themselves.

“We all have a certain affection towards dogs,” says Mansukhani. “Karan suggested we make this film with animals and not actors’ caricatures. We maintained the essence of the script in 90 minutes, with new punches in the script as nobody would want to watch the same film in animated version.” Actor Sanjay Dutt has replaced Salman Khan as Aman in the film. Is the SRK-Salman tiff the reason behind this change? “We wanted to add something new to make it exciting. Sanjay is close to us so we got him. It’s like working with family,” says Mansukhani.
Producer Karan Johar posted on his blog, “The core love story is between three dogs, and the supporting cast has roosters, bears, pigs and cats.” The film is expected to release this summer.
